East Region receives top safety grades again

Backus and Windham hospitals have once again earned A hospital safety grades from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog.

Leapfrog assigns A, B, C, D or F grades to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

Patient safety and quality care are among our top priorities and this recognition reflects the incredible work that is done every day by our outstanding doctors, nurses and staff,” said Backus Hospital President Donna Handley. “I am extremely grateful for the efforts of all of our colleagues who continue to show a true dedication and commitment to our goals of providing patients with timely access to care, exceptional patient experience and the highest quality and safest care possible.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that affect more than 500 patients a day nationally. The organization is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated each fall and spring.
