For New Patients

Thank you for placing your trust in the team at the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Epilepsy Center. We are here to help you find relief from your seizures and support you as you take steps to reclaim the parts of life displaced by your epilepsy.

We know this might be a stressful time for you as you make an appointment to see one of our epilepsy specialists. Feel free to call our office with any questions. The entire team is here to support you and your family.

Help us understand

At your first appointment, it’s important that your medical team understands your seizures. We ask that you bring any test results, videos of a seizure or medical information from other providers, including your primary care provider.

Please also think about the following questions, which we will ask at the first visit:

  • When did your seizures start?
  • What happens before your seizures –is there a trigger like sleep deprivation or menstruation? Do you experience a warning or aura before one starts?
  • What happens during your seizures? Do you experience incontinence or tongue bites?
  • What happens after your seizures? Are you confused?
  • How often do you have seizures?
  • Do you have a family history of epilepsy?
  • Have you had a head injury, dementia, brain infection or vascular disease?
  • Do you have trouble sleeping or with depression or anxiety?

On the day of your visit, please arrive at least 30 minutes early so you can fill out our consent formand other documents. If you must reschedule, we ask that you call at least 24 hours in advance.
