Prior to your surgery, all pre-admission testing — including blood work, electrocardiograms and anesthesia assessment — will be done in a streamlined admission process. All orthopedic surgeries are performed in Operation Room suites dedicated to orthopedics. Bloodless surgery is an option for patients who desire surgery without blood transfusions.
Postoperative patients receive specialized care by nurses and patient care assistants who are highly skilled orthopedic specialists. Pressing the call button at the bedside sends the call directly to a nurse on the unit via a telephone in his or her pocket.
There is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility on the unit staffed by therapists who will formulate a rehabilitation plan to suit your individual needs.
Transitional, Integrated Care
The term transition of care describes the process in which a person's care shifts from being provided in one setting of care to another: from a hospital to a patient's home or to a skilled nursing facility or outpatient rehabilitation center and sometimes back to the hospital. Poorly managed transitions can diminish health and increase costs. Researchers have estimated that inadequate care coordination, including inadequate management of care transitions, was responsible for $25 billion to $45 billion in wasteful spending annually through avoidable complications and unnecessary hospital readmissions. The aim of the Bone and Joint Institute is to create a seamless experience for people transitioning between health care settings. By establishing strong relationships with our care partners, and by gaining important information about the person entrusted to our care during and, at times, before hospitalization, quality outcomes are maximized.
