RedCap Clinical Data Interoperability Services (CDIS)
RedCap CDIS leverages Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) to allow seamless data exchange between a REDCap database and the EPIC electronic health record (EHR), enabling end users to independently set up their data collection projects, map EHR data to RedCap database fields, and adjudicate data transfer.
To use RedCap CDIS:
- Users must have:
- EPIC Access
- A REDCap login
- An IRB-approved research study or an exemption

What can be extracted from EPIC?
- Demographics: includes address (street address, city, state, postal code, country), date of birth, first and last name, home and mobile phone numbers, gender, race, and ethnicity
- Current problems list
- Medications list (active, completed, on-hold, stopped)
- Allergy Intolerance list
- Vital Signs
- Laboratory
- Adverse Event (Research Related Only)
- Core Characteristics (Gestational age at birth and Birth Weight)
- Encounter List
- Immunization
