Internal Funding Opportunuties

Hartford HealthCare 2026 Research Funding Program
Request for Proposals
Letters of Indent Due Thursday, January 22nd

We are pleased to announce research funding opportunities made possible by the Medical Staff of each Hartford HealthCare hospital. There will be approximately $100,000 available to fund investigator-initiated studies.  We expect most grants, including pilot projects, to have budgets of $10,000 or less.  We will make exceptions for more complex projects if they have a well-justified budget; these can have an upper limit of $20,000. These amounts should be viewed as limits, not targets.  Please request only the minimum implementation costs needed.  Any Medical Staff member affiliated with any HHC hospital is eligible to apply.

The project funding aims to support studies that have the potential to lead to new external grant applications and the dissemination of study results including peer reviewed publications and national or international presentations.

We use a letter of intent process; the LOIs are due by Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 at 5pm.  Please use this template for your LOI and submit finalized LOIs to Dr. Jennie Pellowski, Chair of the Research Committee: Jennifer.pellowski@hhchealth.org

Consults are available with HHC Research Department Senior Scientists on a first-come basis.  We strongly encourage investigators to consult with their department’s designated senior scientist, especially if they are new to research. For first time investigators, Dr. Jennie Pellowski, is also available for consultation. All consultations should occur as early as possible and should be initiated before December 18th to ensure that there will be sufficient time to accommodate all applicants. Please contact us if you need assistance identifying the appropriate senior scientist.

LOIs that have been selected for full proposal submissions will be notified in late February with a May due date.  Funding decisions will be sent out in June.

LOIs will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. Importance of the Research: Clinical/research significance
  2. Rigor and Feasibility: scientifically sound and clearly described methodology that minimizes bias; the approach can be done well and within the time frame and budgets proposed.
  3. Expertise and Resources: Investigative teams have the needed expertise to accomplish the research; the science can be completed with current resources available at HHC; the science matches the patient population at HHC in terms of impact.
