Bio

Dr. Lavanya Jitendranath is a fellowship-trained infectious disease physician at Hartford HealthCare Medical Group. She completed her infectious disease fellowship at Seton Hall University. She is also a wound specialist.

As an Infectious Disease Specialist she works collaboratively with other specialty doctors to provide special insight and expertise regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites acquired in the U.S. or overseas.

Dr. Jitendranath is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and in the ABIM subspecialty of Infectious Disease. The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. She is also certified by the American Board of Wound Management and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Through her full-time active clinical practice, Dr. Jitendranath provides both inpatient and outpatient infectious disease consultations, as well as pre-post travel care. She has special interest in treatment of bone and joint infections.

Another special interest is antibiotic stewardship which is using antibiotics responsibly: right drug, right time, right dose, right duration.

With the infectious disease training and knowledge, comes a particular insight into the use of antibiotics and their potential adverse effects.

In addition, Dr. Jitendranath also provides educational opportunities for Infectious Disease fellows and medical residents from University of Connecticut School of Medicine in the area of infectious diseases.
