As one of the Northeast’s most innovative and advanced centers of care, the Spine Wellness Center offers a new approach to caring for people with spine ailments. Our multidisciplinary team allows us to care for the whole person to achieve ongoing spine health.

The Spine Wellness Center offers a one-stop approach with collaboration between physiatrists, neurosurgeons, pain specialists, behavioral health specialists, neurologists, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, and nutritionists all under the same roof.

Back to Life Fitness is a medical exercise program under the close supervision and instruction of an Exercise Physiologist in order to assist those who wants to strengthen muscles, increase endurance, speed, flexibility, or improve balance to keep
the body fit, active and healthy.

The BTL program specializes in working with individuals who may have the following conditions:

Cardiovascular

BTL is open to anyone, even those completing care from a physical therapist, chiropractor or other medical provider.

Through BTL, our Exercise Physiologist will design, monitor, adapt, and implement customized exercise individually and in coordination with your clinician/healthcare professionals.

About This Location

We believe neck and back ailments should be treated in a comprehensive, holistic way that combines traditional care options - neurological care, pain management and physical therapy – with nutritional counseling, mental health care, yoga, acupuncture, meditation and massage. Spine care is complex, and we look at the most conservative treatment first. Our team believes that by optimizing our overall health and wellness, we can often avoid need for surgery. Sometimes, however, surgery becomes the best option. At that point, we focus on the least invasive approach, knowing that good general health improves surgical recovery.

St. Vincent’s Medical Center has been designated as an Aetna Institute of Quality® for Spine Surgery. St. Vincent’s Spine Surgery Program was chosen for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care and a proven commitment to continuous improvement.

Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery

St. Vincent’s Medical Center is one of only six centers in the country to receive Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery from The Joint Commission, an independent organization dedicated to improving healthcare for the public.

The spine program at St. Vincent’s, a collaboration between the Ayer Neuroscience and the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institutes, is one of only two hospitals in Connecticut to receive this certification. The only other Connecticut facility with this designation is Hartford HealthCare’s Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

These accreditations make Hartford HealthCare the only system in Connecticut with advanced spine certification.
