Cancer Institute Adds Oncologist at Charlotte Hungerford’s New Center

The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute has announced the addition of Dr. Madhavi Gorusu, who will serve as director and one of a team of providers based at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s new Medical Oncology and Infusion Center in Torrington.

Dr. Gorusu’s areas of expertise include general Oncology and Hematology, Immunotherapy and Precision Oncology Treatment, and Lymphoma, Myeloma and Breast Cancer.  She has vast experience treating a variety of malignancies and looks forward to bringing her knowledge and compassion to the growing cancer services in Torrington. With her MBA background, Dr. Gorusu is playing a key role in providing cancer patients better results and has a special interest in harnessing the most value for patients when providing top-notch oncology care.

“It is our privilege to expand access to cancer care and infusion services in the Northwest Region,” said Kristi Gafford, MBA, MPH, Senior Vice President of Operations for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, which is the charter member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.

Dr. Gorusu attended Medical School at Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, India, and completed both a Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Hartford CT, and is very active in volunteer activities in the community.

Dr. Gorusu will be seeing patients at the Hospital’s new 3,000-square-foot infusion center that opened in the fall of 2020 conveniently located on the 6th floor of the CHH main tower building, 540 Litchfield St., Torrington. It allows patients easy access to medical oncology and hematology services such as visits with providers, clinical trials and chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. In addition, supportive oncology services are available on site including nurse navigation, nutrition and social work.
